No uterine cancer
The relief flows through me! Finally got the message: no uterine cancer! This has hung over us for many months. There has been much concern, despair, frustration and grief.

Hello, my lonely blog!

Distracted by the peacock
I'm a bad blogger, leaving you here all alone. We can't all be amazing bloggers, all of the time. I guess this is just a period of time in my life where other things have taken priority. Lots and lots of other things. Well I got distracted. Hopefuly I'll be on track. I really miss blogland.

Birdy and the turtle

Birdy and the turtle - ewian

Birdy is out for a little walk with his new friend.

I got a beautiful set from my sweetheart. It is a box of Derwent Inktense Pencils. The box also contain ink, a grinding stone and 3 mop brushes.

derwent -inktense

Derwent Inktense Pencils are as versatile as watercolor pencils, but with a firmer texture that allows them to perform with the brilliant intensity of traditional pen-and-ink. The pencils are available in 72 strong, vibrant colours. They work beautifully on their own but can easily be mixed together. The colors are perfect for bold expressive illustrations. Or if you want a more intense colour than the watercolour gives. Inktense pencils can be used dry or washed out. Once dry, the color is permanent and can be worked over with other media.

The box set pencils are round but the pencils from my 12 set is hexagon shaped.

My set of 12 has the following colours: Sun Yellow, Tangerine, Poppy Red, Fuchsia, Deep Indigo, Sea Blue, Teal Green, Apple Green, Leaf Green, Baked Earth, Bark, and Ink Black.

The box set of has the following colours: set includes: Sherbert Lemon, Sun Yellow, Burnt Orange,Scarlet Pink, Hot Red, Shiraz, Deep Rose, Thistle, Mauve, Deep Violet, Lagoon, Iron Blue, Bright Blue, Dark Aquamarine, Felt Green, Mallard Green, Apple Green, Iron Green, Leaf Green, Amber, Baked Earth, Madder Brown, Bark, and Antique White. In addition it contains: Ink Stick Chinese ink, Sepia ink, Indian ink, grinding stone and 3 mop brushes.

Drawing - everyday

Bluebird - ewian

I draw everyday! And I am proud of it!
I have always doodled. My old school books are filled with small drawings I have made, ideas that I have had and solutions to small everyday problems. I used to have a piece of paper by my bed and when I could not sleep I made a drawing or doodled a bit. My drawing had never been in a system and often the drawings ended up in the trash. 2 years ago I made my self a birthday promise/gift I would allow my self the time to draw and create everyday.

Here is the rules I made for my self:
- make an entry to an "art journal" everyday
- for at least 15 minutes
- put at least one line on the paper
- not feel obligated to finish a drawing
- bring the "art journal" with me every time I go out side

Soon another year has gone by, and I have made it! I am going to continue doing it! It has been fun and I have learn so much AND I have a year full of journal entrys, ideas and solution's of everyday problems all in one place.

I am really proud of my journals. And I wish you all could feel the joy it is to make them and then look back and see some of the things you have done.

Today illustration is a bird with a bag, do you think he has a journal in there? It is made by drawing the bird with a HB pencil. Then traces with a permanent marker. It is then made with a wet technique, where the paper is wet, colour over with the watersoluble wax pastel.

Medium used: pencil, Derwent watersoluble wax pastel and permanent marker.

A little bird told me

Twitter1 - ewian

I am trying out Twitter... http://twitter.com/ewian

Made a painting with a bird singing about the sun, fund that it would be appropriate to this action. Not sure if I will manage to use Twitter in a rational way. Don't want to be the one twittering about:"now I am getting the mail". But I hope that I can use it as a mini update on what I am creating. That could be my journalling word/props for the day or a new art supply I am trying out. I also want to use it as a notifier when I am travelling, maybe we are at the same place...
Twitter3 - ewian
I actually made two pictures. They are a bit different, On the first one there was some messing up with the camera so no video came out. On the second one I did manage to film the whole ting and edit it down to a reasonably length.
Twitter2 - ewian
Do you Twitter? How do you use it in a good way?

Painting made with: Watersoluble wax pastel, acrylic paint, vintage paper, permanent marker.

Art journal - spring 09

Spring 09-ewian

The Norwegian word for spring is vår, /vå:r/.

Spring marks the transition from winter into summer. What signals you are judging the time of year after? For me spring is the birds of passages returning, singing, calling out to a mate, lets build and settle. Bumblebees and butterflies searching for nectar in the goat willow. Feeling the sun warm my skin. Seeing the wild flowers in my garden peeking up from the grown.

Another signal that the spring is here, is the midnightsun. It is still some days to we have the full effect. Today the sun raised at 01.51 and it will go down at 23.39.

So for me, where I live in the northern part of Norway, spring comes late and last short. So we must enjoy every minute or you will miss it.

Medium used: watersoluble wax pastel and pencil.

IF - balloon

This is actually an art journal entry from last Wednesday. I have been busy with exams and decided that it would have to to for this weeks IF. The original idea came from the phrase "Some glad morning...I'll fly away" Medium is watercolour crayons, just testing out some new ones from Staedtler called karat aquarelle. So far there is a bit more resistance in this crayons compared to the other ones I have, but it maybe the paper. A bit more testing is needed.

Medium used: Watersoluble wax paste from Staedtler and permanent marker.
