EDM#17 - Draw a musical instrument

The EDM challenge#17 said: "Draw a musical instrument"

I made the instrument by drawing and cutting it out of paper. Then I laid it under another sheet of paper and rubbed the pencil over. I then did the drawing on top.

The inspiration came from our nationalday 17. of may, the bands play a lot of catchy tunes, and they seems to get stuck in my head for weeks.

EDM#16 - Draw a favorite tool

The EDM challenge#16 said: "Draw a favourite tool". The tweezers is my favourite tool. I know no other tool to replace it with. A hammer you can replace wit a rock, an axe or a crowbar. Knitting needles can be replaced with twigs, not that great to work with, but it will do the job. The tweezers, I have not found no other thing/tool that will do the job. I think I have 20 different ones, this one I got from my sister.

EDM#15 branch

The EDM challenge #15 said "draw a tree or trees, leaves or branches". So I draw the view from a branch of a weeping birch/ drooping birch. I live on the Birch ridge so there is quite a lot of birches here. The one that I would like to have that is not growing here is a blood-weeping birch/ blood-drooping birch, it has beautiful red leafs all summer. They are unfortunately extremely hard to get a hold of.

The illo has a bit of texture to it, as I used some gloss gel. Fun to play around with.

EDM#14 draw what you see in the morning

The EDM challenge #14 said "draw what you see in the morning when you get up". I am always to much in a hurry to notice what I see in the morning. The resound being I always stays in bed as long as I can. But when I laze there in bed I look up on a foul lamp. It is a kitchen lamp, the kind with florescent light tubes. It broke when I dusted it about a year ago. I gives good strong light and I have not found a new lamp that meets my needs. It must give a strong light, be nice too look at, collect low amount of dust and be in my price range.

So I am stuck with this:

EDM#13 draw your telephone

The illustration is for the Everyday Matters Drawing Challenge no.13 was draw your telephone. Although I have a land line, I seldom use it. My mobile have taken over most of my telephone use. I have had my phone for 4 years that is pretty long time in the mobile phone world...

Medium used: Lyra super ferby(colouring pencil), permanent marker and nail polish.

EDM#12 - draw what you ate for dinner

Guess I would not be popular if I made whale steak for dinner... But pizza is something everybody loves and you can put what ever you like on it.

This is what I put on my Italian pizza in addition to homemade tomato sauce: Cheese; Normanna (resemble Gorgonzola) and Jalsberg, artichoke hearts, rape-oil, tomatoes, cashews nuts, and a local herb called "kongsurt" translated it would be "kings herb"(resemble thyme).

The illustration is for the Everyday Matters Drawing Challenge no.12 draw what you ate for dinner. Medium used is pencil and inktense from Derwent.

EDM # 11draw your sunglasses

The EDM challenge number 11 was "Draw your glasses or sunglasses". I chose the sunglasses, mostly because I don't wear other types of glasses, yet... I guess that will come with age. The glasses lay on my drawing table, and the light fell in on them on an odd way. I think I need some new sunglasses these are not good to wear any more, the glass is OK not to much scratches but everything else is bend and crooked.

Medium used: 2B pencil, watercolour pencil and permanent marker.

EDM # 10 draw your hand

The EDM challenge number 10 said "Draw your hand or hands (or someone elses if you like)". I actually did this back in February, just forgot to post it. When drawing I struggled with actually drawing what I see and not what I know it should look like. I guess this is a common matter but on this hand it was a true challenge. The hand is suppose to be mine. It felt like the empty hand was enough so I garbed the first thing I could and it turned out to be a sponge.

EDM # 9 - organized chaos

The EDM challenge number 9 was "Draw a bit of "organized chaos" My art supplies has a tendency to get mixed up and chaotic. My solution is of course sort them in to boxes...

This organized chaos is drawn in pencil nothing fancy not even the shadows just the out lines.

EDM # 8 - jewellery

The EDM challenge number 8 was "Draw your watch or other piece of jewellery" I stopped using watches (that thing telling you that you are going to be late on your wrist) when cellphones started to show the time on the display. As for jewellery I only use a gold ring, not exciting enough to draw. So I chose to draw a piece of jewellery that I have been fascinated of since the first time I saw it, the Cameo. EDM # 7 - tin

I am still playing catchup on the EDM challenges. A tin from the kitchen was the challenges nr7. My tin is filled with raisin.

EDM # 6 - favorite well-loved object

This object is a wooden bowl, it is actually my grandmothers, it sits on her living room table and is filled with small paper pieces, manna-corn, on them is bible verses or to be more correct it says where to look up the bible verses. My grandmother use to draw one piece for everyone that was visiting and then read the verse before the went home. The faint letters on the bowl says "in memory of the peace, Narvik, 1945" As long as I can remember the bowl and the manna-corn has had the same colour tones always looked well used. This is me trying to capture a memory of my grandmother reading the bible verses to us before we left for the road home.

EDM # 5 - my bed

This is my bed. In the picture I wrote the the name on the objects, bed, sheet, mattress, pillow, bedspread, duvet. If you don't recognise the words it because they are in Norwegian and my writing is done in a hurry. Played around with some permanent markers. Some was permanent and some bleed. I used pilot, super color marker, Eberhard Faber decoro lackmarker, Uni Posca bullet tip and Uni Poscaround tip. There was a light wash over with the watercolours.

EDM # 4 mug

Had a little trouble with the flash lamp, got a lot of reflection from the varnish. Why use varnish? The illustration is in a book so the varnish keeps it from smearing.

The mug is wonderful to drink tea from, the lid keeps the tea warm and delicious. Today's medium was pastel chalk. It is over 3 months ago since I last used them! Keep returning to watercolours they are just so easy to use when travelling, and I keep grabbing them even if I am at home...

Her is what I did: Sketched the mug and tea bag using a pencil, added the pink colour with the pastel chalk, used a painting brush to soften the lines. Sprayed on varnish. Used cadmium red pastel chalk to trace the outer lines and he details on the mug / lid. Used the brush a bit more to soften the lines. There is a bit yellow in the high light on the lid. For the tea bag I used cadmium yellow, ochre and burned ochre. Sprayed on varnish.

Medium used: pastel chalk, 4B pencil, brush and varnish.

EDM # 3 - purse

This is my purse that I use when I am going to carry large books and folders. It is made of leather and have that wonderful leathery smell. It was bought at a red cross second-hand shop, a true bargain.

I have made made a double picture showing the purse from different angles and in different mediums. The one on the right is done as a watercolour. The one on the left is done in oil pastels. The background on the left is made up off old receipts and papers, I just empted my purse and voalà I had enough for my background.


Receipts do not make a good foundation to draw on, the paper is very thin and can not take any water, it will crumble away. But it was fun to do.

EDM # 2 - a desk lamp

Her is what I did for the EDM # 2 - a desk lamp.
Just pencil is used. The lamp is a light in the lab at the collage I am taking science classes. Her is how it look like up close, I must admit I drew it sitting on the other end of the room.

EDM # 1 - a shoe

Everyday Matters, EDM, have a long list of things to draw and illustrate. Her is mine for the #1 - a shoe.
Here is what I did.
My shoes have a leaf pattern under, I used this to stamp the background and added a watercolour wash. I drew the shoe with a pencil. Painted the shoe whit thick layer of watercolour. Traced the lines with a sharpie.
