Moving my blog
I am moving my blog to my website www.ewian.com/blog . It is long over due. Blogger has been a good place to have a blog, but since I have my own domain and have had it since 2005, it was time to move. The whole ewian.com webpage is getting an overhaul. For me it has been and still is a steep learning curve. The goal was to have it done the summer of 2014, how ever, as most things, the process did uncover 10 new issues as soon as I fixed 1. So new goal is Easter time 2016. I do see the end of my to do list is getting shorter. Moving the blog is one of those things that let me post new things as well as work on revamping old stuff. Thank you so much for having the patience to stick with me.

Flytter min blog
Jeg flytter bloggen min til min nettside www.ewian.com/blog . Det er langt over forfallsdato. Blogger har vært et bra sted å ha en blog, men siden jeg har mitt eget domene, og har hatt det siden 2005, det det på tide å flytte. Hele ewian.com websiden er å få en overhaling . For meg har det vært og fortsatt er en bratt læringskurve . Målet var å få det gjort sommeren 2014, men, som de fleste ting, avdekket prosessen 10 nye ting så snart jeg fikset 1. Så mitt nye mål er påsketider 2016. Jeg ser nå at listen min blir kortere og kortere. Å flytte bloggen er en av de tingene som lar meg poste nye ting, samt arbeid på oppussingen av gamle ting . Takk så mye for at du har tålmodighet til å følge med meg.

2/365:2013 ATC Baby It's Cold Outside

There is a Norwegian saying "å fryse seg blå" translating "to freeze oneself blue". It is not so cold for January just around -10*C(14*F). However that is cold enough to feel freezing blue from being outside for a couple of hours.
Medium used: acrylic paint, colouring pencil and acrylic glaze.

I have never seen so large snowflakes at home before. Most of them was 4 to 5 cm (1.5-2 inches) long.

Potato vacation - Norwegian culture

In Norway, all schoolchildren have autumn vacation. This vacation is also called potato vacation. In the old days, the schools had two weeks potato vacation in the autum. Now it is reduced to 2 days, related to a weekend. As the name says, it was a school holiday for school kids to participate in the harvesting of the potato crops. In today's society the family do not depends on the help of children's hands in the harvesting, and the schools' autumn vacation is often regarded as outdated.

Many parents take time off work to be with their children. Some actualy harvest the potato, while others take their children to the mountains(cabin) or the Mediterranean, there are also some who for various reasons stay home. For those who can not take time off, or if it is just the best soulution, send there children on vacation to aunts, uncles, grandparents or other close friends of the family. My youngest boy, Zack, went on potato vacation to his grandmother. This gives him and his grandmother a great opportunity to tie good relationship. It is from this potato vacation that my illustration is inspired.

Potetferie - norsk kultur
I Norge har alle skolebarn høstferie. Denne ferien blir også kalt potetferie. I gamle dager hadde skolene 2 uker potetferie om høsten. Nå er den redusert til 2 dager knyttet til en helg. Som navnet sier var det skolefri for at skoleungene skulle få delta i innhøstingen av potetavlingene. I dagens samfunn er ikke familien avhenging av å få hjelp av barnehender i potetsinnhøstingen, og skolenes høstferie blir ofte ansett som utgått på dato.

Mange foreldre tar fri fra jobb for å være sammen med barna sine. Noen tar opp potet, mens andre tar med seg barna til fjells eller til Syden, er det også en del som av ulike årsaker må holde seg hjemme. For de som ikke kan ta fri eller bare for det passer best, drar barna på ferie til tanter, onkler, besteforeldre eller andre nære venner i familien. Min yngste gutt Zack dro på potetferie til sin bestemor. Noe som gir han og bestemoren en kjempefin mulighet til å knytte gode relasjonsbånd. Det er fra denne potetferien at min illustrasjon er inspirert.
